Large Snowflake Obsidian Pre Cut Octadecagon Rough Block

$163.50

No Longer Available

An Octadecagon is an 18 sided polygon. This is the normal pre-shape cut specimen to make a sphere or ball from. We were going to have Wally Marks of the Highway 50&95 Rock Shop make us a sphere from this large Snowflake Obsidian pre-cut, but he passed away before we got the specimen to him. We thought about keeping it in this shape and polishing the flats, but finally decided it would make a better sphere or display just as it is. We have had this piece in our personal collection for many years now. It has minor imperfections typical of large snowflake obsidian. Ships in a 12 x 12 x 8" box.

specimen weighs 21 lbs,4.5oz (9.65kg) and measures 7.24 x 7.14 x 7.14 inches (18.39 x 18.14 x 18.14cm)

They look polished or almost like they have been urethane coated/, but they are totally natural. In addition, they are not dyed or heat treated. This one is from our personal collection and was procured from a Brazilian Mineral Dealer near Tucson, Arizona in 2002. Ships in an 8 x 8 x 8" box

specimen weighs 10 lbs (4.53kg) and measures 6.6 x 6.1 x 1.6 to 5.4 inches (16.7 x 15.5 x 4.2 to 13.8cm)

Rain Forest Jasper from Australia

Rain Forest Jasper came from a molten flow of magma from the now extinct Mount Hay volcano near Queensland, Australia about 120 million years ago. The thick Rhyolitic magma that escaped from deep within the volcano was heavier and settled down through the lighter magma. As it settled towards the bottom of the mix it cooled slower, allowing the formation of spherical and phenocryst crystalline structures to form together. The final result of this unique occurrence is a Rhyolite that contains quartz and feldspar orbs or nodules. This stone was first presented in 1986 and has grown in popularity since it's introduction to the market.

Rain Forest Jasper got it's name from the striking colors of green, red, brown, yellow, creams and oranges, reminiscent of a scene in a rain forest. Although this stone has no association with a rain forest other than its common name, Rain Forest Jasper sounds better than Spherulitic Rhyolite. Other names for this unique mineral are Rain Forest Rhyolite, Spherulitic Rhyolite, Orbicular Jasper and Marine Agate. This piece was procured from an Australian Minerals dealer in Quartzite in 2001. Ships in a 12 x 12 x 8" box
