Eudialyte

EudialyteEudialyte is a fairly rare cyclosilicate mineral. It is a popular mineral in collections however due to its attractive and distinctive colors. It is...unfortunately... extremely rare to find well formed crystals and rarely even forms any crystal faces at all. Crystals of eudialyte are usually embedded in the host rock, surrounded by other minerals and not showing any hint of a crystal form. The mineral's colors on the other hand are quite pleasant and give the collector an all-together attractive and rare mineral. It can show distinctive colors of a red-violet, pink, blue, yellow and an attractive brown. Eudialyte is a beautiful and rare stone found in only three places in the world... the Kola Peninsula , Greenland and Canada. The majority of available specimens are from the Kola Peninsula, Russia. Fewer specimens are from Greenland or Canada.

The Canadian specimens are found in the Kipawa alkaline complex, Villedieu, Quebec, Canada. These specimens are from a metamorphosed alkaline intrusive which is also the type locality of agrellite, gittinsite and hiortdahlite II. Many rare minerals are found here of which several are very fluorescent under Shortwave UV lamps, in particular Agrellite(pink), Vlasovite(white), and Gittensite(green). These Canadian specimens are must have for a fluorescent mineral collection!

These are great specimens of the uncommon mineral eudialyte, in a stunning bright magenta pink color. The Eudialyte makes a strong contrast with a matrix that also includes white agrellite, and black magnesio-ferro-katopherite.
