| These Brazilian Agate slabs are Old Stock Agate from the Comstock Pewter Factory in Durango Colorado. They purchased these through the mid to late 90's, then went out of business a few years later. We have not seen this nicer quality agate from Brazil for quite a few years. We believe that Brazil is "high grading" their current stock that they sell, so the collecting world does not have the chance to get the best quality agate at wholesale pricing. Most of the Brazilian agate imported lately is lower quality agate that is dyed to make it look better or smaller specimens pre-cut and polished as "export" agate. Brazilian agate rough stock has become harder to find in the past few years, and with the quality decreasing significantly, it's nice to find some desirable old stock! |
